On Friday September 13, Australian director Baz Luhrmann is on CNN’s Talk Asia – in Beijing for the Chinese premiere of The Great Gatsby. CNN’s Monita Rajpal catches up with him in the city where he first conceived the idea to make the film. The award-winning director shares his views on the parallels between modern-day China and the United States in the 1920s, the challenges he faced adapting the classic American novel to the silver screen, and how he has managed to defy critics and their expectations.
