Australians are being asked to show their generous side during the inaugural Global Sharing Week this June, by sharing things they no longer need on TuShare.
Global Sharing Week (Sunday June 7 – Saturday June 13, 2015) is the world’s largest mass engagement campaign aimed at increasing public awareness of the rapidly growing sharing economy, estimated to be worth $15 billion.
A newspoll survey conducted by TuShare shows that 82% of Australians have unwanted, useable goods in their homes and through Global Sharing Week, TuShare is challenging Australians to share these items from their home with others.
This year’s theme #ShareTheGood recognises that sharing helps people save money, build community and protect the environment. TuShare’s Global Sharing Challenge asks Australians to share as little as one item during the seven day initiative, aiming to rehome 100,000 items.
“We are delighted to be the Australian partner for Global Sharing Week,” said Imogen Baxter, General Manager, TuShare. “This global initiative recognises the extraordinary good that the sharing economy can have. As a proudly community centric business, TuShare is the natural home for this feel-good social movement in Australia.”
TuShare provides a platform for Australians to share their pre-loved belongings for free, with a 33,000 strong community passionate about sustainability, neighbourliness and the joy of giving.
To date, TuShare members have single-handedly saved more than 33,000 kilograms of landfill simply from sharing through the platform.
“Sharing is scientifically proven to make humans happier, but often we just need a little nudge to get out and do it. In so many ways, it really is better to give than receive. TuShare’s Global Sharing Challenge is the perfect platform – if every Australian shares one item we would collectively save millions of dollars, and divert tonnes of useful stuff away from landfill. It is an easy and exciting way of helping to share the good,” said Baxter.
TuShare will reveal Australia’s most generous suburb and top sharing suburbs in each state in the lead up to Global Sharing Week.
The inaugural Global Sharing Week follows the success of Global Sharing Day, which reached more than 100 million people globally in 2014.
