In June, CNN’s ‘Leading Women’ profiles two powerful women in the fashion industry: Tory Burch and Diane von Furstenberg.
CNN’s Nina dos Santos meets the U.S. fashion designer Tory Burch whose fashion empire boasts more than 120 freestanding stores and whose label is sold in more than 3,000 department and specialty stores. From a stay-at-home mum to self-made billionaire, Tory Burch has been recognised as one of Forbes’ Most Powerful Women in the World and is a dedicated philanthropist. She tells CNN about using her influence to empower other women and she reveals her ultimate style guru: her mother.
Also on ‘Leading Women’ this month, CNN meets Diane von Furstenberg (pictured), who achieved prominence in the fashion world when she created the wrap dress in 1974, which came to symbolise power and independence for an entire generation of women. Her company has since grown to become the global luxury lifestyle brand that it is today.
In 2005, von Furstenberg received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and has acted its president since 2006. In this significant role, she has helped establish the Design Piracy Prohibition Act, which protects designers from counterfeit reproductions of their work. She was also named the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion by Forbes Magazine in 2012.
‘Leading Women’ connects CNN viewers to extraordinary women of our time. Each month CNN meets two women at the top of their field, exploring their careers, lives and ideas.
