Art meets comedy

Art will meet comedy live on stage on September 28 when standup comedian Gary Eck and painter David Asher Brook perform together for the first time.
While Gary Eck breaks out some personal stories (including how as a poor uni student he almost entered the porn industry), David Asher Brook will paint a canvas beside him.
Their one-off show Art Meets Comedy is on Saturday September 28 at the Happy Endings Comedy Club in Kings Cross.
“There are funny but embarrassing stories that I’ve always been reluctant to tell – until now,” Eck said. “I think it’s time for a comedy confessional.”
For David Asher Brook, painting is a pursuit that works well with an audience. He frequently takes a canvas out onto the street to paint.
“I’d rather be painting with 20 people looking at me, because there is a rawness about the work. You’ve got to make something on the spot,” Brook said.
Simon Kennedy will be among other comedians on stage on the night.

Gary Eck is a writer, actor and director who has performed as a standup comedian in Edinburgh, New York, Paris, London and Sydney. He co-wrote and co-directed Happy Feet Two (as well as voicing characters in the film), won Tropfest in 2004 and almost entered the porn industry by accident as a poor uni student when someone waved a $500 cheque at him.
David Asher Brook is a multi-award winning painter and 2013 finalist in the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize. He finds painting a real and intense moment where you can notice and feel things that people don’t see in the mad rush of this world.
