SUPER-CUTE AND SUPER-FIERCE: ‘THE POWERPUFF GIRLS’ RETURN IN A BLOCKBUSTER PREMIERE

The Powerpuff Girls, the three super-cute, super-fierce and super-powered little heroes out to save the world, return to Cartoon Network in a massive all-day premiere featuring six episodes on Saturday, April 9.
The completely reimagined, all-new series will debut alongside new episodes of other Cartoon Network originals including Adventure Time, Clarence, We Bare Bears and many more, in a blockbuster cartoon day from 8am to 8pm.
Fans in Australia and New Zealand will be watching the dynamic debut of The Powerpuff Girls at 10am as it is simultaneously launched in Asia Pacific, proving the cartoon is a global phenomenon.
The series will then screen in its regular timeslot at 6pm weekdays from April 26.
In the new series, The Powerpuff Girls – Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup – are back to tackle monsters and save the world between school and bedtime. They battle a Who’s Who of evil, showing what it really means to “fight like a girl” as life alternates between going to school, fighting crime – and winning at hopscotch.
Known to the citizens of Townsville and villains everywhere as The Powerpuff Girls, together the three superkids protect their beautiful metropolis from a regular parade of evildoers. Armed with super-cool superpowers and top-notch teamwork – and occasional assistance from Professor Utonium and the Mayor of Townsville – they show their home town and the whole universe that it is possible to save the world before bedtime.
Mark Eyers, Chief Content Officer – Kids, Turner Asia Pacific, said: “The Powerpuff Girls will be everywhere. Whatever channel you turn to on April 9, and whatever screen you’re using, there will be Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles saving the day. We’ve waited a long time to see these super-cute and super-fierce girls return to action, and the all-new series marks the homecoming for one of Cartoon Network’s best loved franchises.”
The Powerpuff Girls is produced by Cartoon Network Studios, with Nick Jennings (Adventure Time, SpongeBob SquarePants) as executive producer and Bob Boyle (Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) as co-executive producer.
One of Cartoon Network’s most enduring original series, the initial run of The Powerpuff Girls, created by Craig McCracken, premiered in 1996 and earned two Emmy Awards plus five nominations and countless animation honours throughout 78 episodes. The series also spawned a feature film with Warner Bros. Pictures in 2002.
With more than US$2.5 billion in retail sales generated since its debut, The Powerpuff Girls is one of the top-grossing Cartoon Network brands of all time, and the new series will be supported by a comprehensive consumer products campaign.
Cartoon Network recently partnered with designer Jeremy Scott and Moschino on a global fashion collaboration – The Powerpuff Girls x Jeremy Scott – which is now available as part of Moschino’s spring/summer 2016 collection.
In the digital space, The Powerpuff Girls series will be supported by video and games on the Cartoon Network Watch and Play and Cartoon Network Anything apps, CartoonNetwork.com.au and on Cartoon Network’s Facebook page.
A free iTunes app episode (Man Up) exclusive to Cartoon Network Australia will be available March 14-April 9.
The Powerpuff Girls screens on Foxtel Channel 713 in Australia and Sky NZ Channel 102 in New Zealand.
