MTV GETS BRAINWASHED: World renowned street artist and Banksy cohort, Mr. Brainwash, to paint MTV HQ ahead of MTV documentary

Hot off the heels of the announcement of Mr. Brainwash as guest speaker at this year’s Semi Permanent Festival, the illusive street artist will touchdown in Sydney this week and make his way to the MTV offices to paint live at an exclusive party, ahead of filming a mini series with MTV Australia.
Mr. Brainwash is the moniker of Los Angeles-based filmmaker and pop artist Thierry Guetta. Considered one of the most prolific and talked about artists of today, Mr. Brainwash achieved worldwide recognition with Banksy’s Oscar nominated film, Exit Through the Gift Shop, which saw people worldwide speculate that Mr Brainwash was actually an elaborate prank staged by Banksy.
In an exciting first for MTV, Mr. Brainwash will head to MTV HQ to live paint the office with a pop culture mashup of his iconic style of art mixed with key MTV moments over time. This trip will also kick off filming of the mini-series MTV Australia is set to film with Mr. Brainwash over the next six months.
Mr Brainwash says, “I am very much looking forward to seeing Australia for the first time, I already see huge potential to do big things, 2014 is the year, so stay tuned.”
Mr. Brainwash, best known for his pop-art influenced street art, has spent more than a decade following and filming the most renowned artists of this century. Inspired by his subjects, he started hitting the streets, from Los Angeles to different parts of the world, with spray painted stencils and posters of his pop art inspired images. He is well known for his collaborative work with other artists and creative minds such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sade, Dolce & Gabbana and many more.
2008: Mr. Brainwash made his art show debut with one of Los Angeles’s most memorable solo exhibitions, Life is Beautiful, held at the historic CBS Studios on Sunset Boulevard. Originally scheduled to open for only two weeks, the exhibit was extended for three months, attracting more than 50,000 visitors.
2009: Mr. Brainwash’s work had garnered so much recognition that Madonna approached him to design the cover of her greatest hits album, Celebration.
2010: Mr. Brainwash made his New York solo debut in February with the unveiling of ICONS, a 15,000 square-foot exhibition in the heart of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. Due to its overwhelming success, the sold-out show was extended for an additional six months under the name ICONS REMIX.
2011: Mr. Brainwash returned to Los Angeles, taking over an 80,000 square-foot building in the heart of the city. He used the building itself as a canvas, creating giant installations and murals.
2012: Mr. Brainwash had his first European solo show during the Summer Olympics at the Old Sorting Office, a 120,000 square foot warehouse on Oxford Street in the centre of London. He collaborated with David Guetta for the launch of the show, which saw 2000 people lining up everyday for a month to get in.
2013: Mr. Brainwash was involved in The Artwars exhibition, featuring the worlds best artists, reinterpreting the original strorm trooper helmet, held at the Saatchi Gallery in London. He did a solo show in Mexico City, and worked on commissions for celebrities including Alicia Keys.
2014: Mr. Brainwash is set to headline Semi Permanent in Sydney and is also working on a host of top secret collaborations.
