In January, CNN’s ‘Open Court’ is in Melbourne for the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open.
The program kicks off with a story that’s captured off-court headlines. Novak Djokovic has hired six-time grand slam champion Boris Becker as his head coach and Roger Federer has hired former number one, Stefan Edberg, to join his coaching team. CNN viewers will hear from world number two and reigning Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic about his decision to bring Becker on board. ‘Open Court’ also speaks with world number one Rafael Nadal and world number four Andy Murray about Djokovic’s decision to hire Becker.
Then it’s a rare reunion of mates when former world number one Pat Rafter and CNN ‘Open Court’ host Pat Cash catch up. Rafter is Australia’s Davis Cup captain and the two-time grand slam winner talks candidly about Bernard Tomic’s future and what Lleyton Hewitt has meant to Australian tennis. Rafter and Cash also reveal some of their secrets to the “attack” game.
Finally on this episode of the show, now-retired Kim Clijsters (“Aussie Kim” – whose final grand slam win was taking out the Australian Open in 2011) interviews former number one Ana Ivanovic in Belgium, where Clijsters is raising her family.
