WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? POPULAR “FASTEST DOG IN THE WEST” RETURNS FOR BAYRUN 2018 — REGISTRATIONS NOW OPEN —

June 19, 2018, Sydney, Australia:

The dogs are back for Sydney’s popular BayRun, returning for its 16th year around Sydney’s Iron Cove on Sunday, August 5. Early bird registrations are now open at www.bayrun.com.au.
The annual 7km race is bringing back the “Fastest Dog in the West” category which is traditionally a big hit with families, running enthusiasts and elite runners, who pace it out with their four-legged companions by their side.
“Construction work on Iron Cove upgrades in the past two years meant dogs had to miss out competing alongside their owners, but in 2018 the Fastest Dog in the West category returns and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever,” said Race Director James Millar.
Other race categories are Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Team and the 2KM Primary School Challenge.
BayRun 2018 is proudly brought to the community by Orange Theory Fitness and will once again attract more than 2000 runners and walkers to the Inner West’s popular harbourside track.
For elite participants, the BayRun is an important event on the running calendar. Last year’s Male Open placeholders Harry Summers and Thomas Do Canto went on to place 1st and 2nd at the City2Surf the following week. First place in the Women’s Open, Lauren Reid, was the female winner of the Blackmores Half Marathon later that year.
The picturesque course starts at Le Montage in Leichhardt and winds around Callan Park, across the Iron Cove Bridge, along Henley Marine Drive and neighbouring suburbs of Drummoyne and Rodd Point, and finally the waterside bike path past Lilyfield to the finishing line.

The 2km Primary School Challenge, presented by Primary OSHCare, attracts students from across Sydney. Participants receive a medal and the chance to win prizes for their school. Parents can run alongside their children if they wish by registering as an accompanying adult.
The Team event brings corporates, community groups and high schools together in a spirit of fun, competitive rivalry.
“We are thrilled to welcome our new and long-term supporters of the race. Without them BayRun would not be possible. Together they make this community event a day worth celebrating,” said Sponsorship Manager Karly Smith.
Presenting Partner, Orange Theory Fitness, will lead the official warm ups on race day.
Gold sponsors are Warwick Williams Real Estate, Balmain Sports Medicine, Canada Bay Club, and Athletes Foot/Asics. Silver sponsors are Primary OSHCare, Soothing Care Dental, Boobs on the Run and The Inner West Courier. The event is supported by the Inner West Council.
Funds raised after the costs of organising the race go to Dobroyd Point Public School for facilities for the students.
Race t-shirts for kids and adults are now on sale.
