2013 AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks

Martin Scorsese, Jerry Seinfeld and Robert De Niro are among the celebrities heading up the 2013 AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks on TCM on Sunday 24 November at 8.30pm.
The American Film Institute bestowed its highest honour – the AFI Life Achievement Award – to Mel Brooks for his contribution to the industry across 50 years, celebrating the breadth and depth of his career as a director, producer, writer, actor and composer.
“In Mel’s films, all bets are off,” Martin Scorsese said as he presented Brooks with the 41st life achievement award.
Other Hollywood luminaries at the star-studded evening include Woody Allen, Billy Crystal, Larry David, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, Whoopi Goldberg, Nathan Lane, Cloris Leachman, George Lucas, David Lynch, Amy Poehler, Carl Reiner, Martin Short, Sarah Silverman, Steven Spielberg and Gene Wilder.
Many of them give their own individual tributes to the man who grew up as Melvin James Kaminsky: a little boy fascinated by Charlie Chaplin films.
2013 AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks will screen Sunday 24 November 8.30pm (AEDT) on TCM
