eckfactor was appointed to handle the entire publicity campaign for the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. The event itself and orange carpet interviews are a natural publicity generator however the biggest challenge came from generating newsworthy stories about the voting process and the introduction of a new category, Slime Minister.
eckfactor coordinated a series of photoshoots with nominees including Karl Stefanovic, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Bindi, Robert and Terri Irwin and placed stories in key publications that would generate interest on the awards and drive voting.
It was also the agency’s responsibility to create coverage opportunities that would help sell tickets to the show.
Despite a lack of a major international guest compared to previous years, tickets to the 2011 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards sold out within 40 minutes. To launch the category of Slime Minister, eckfactor coordinated a public stunt / photoshoot in Sydney with 25 children dressed as Mini Julia Gillards’ complete with signature hair and suit.
There were even a few rogue Tony Abbott’s floating around. It was Julia Gillard’s 50th Birthday and the stunt resulted in print coverage and television coverage on Nine News, Sky News, A Current Affair and live coverage on Sunrise.
The team at perfeckt also filmed and photographed the 2011 KCA and distributed clips online via YouTube – video views continue to reach into the tens of thousands. As a result of eckfactor’s intensive press campaign the 2011 KCA received a record number of votes – with over 1.6 million votes received.
