Brand Publicity: Tech, Travel & Business

Garmin Australia & New Zealand

As Garmin’s public relations agency for ANZ since 2012, eckfactor manages a highly successful PR and product review program for several business units including fitness, outdoor and automotive.

While Garmin has long been known for expertise in GPS and navigation, in recent years the company has come to the forefront of wearable technology innovation with popular running watches, fitness bands and multisport adventure devices.

eckfactor is responsible for promoting Garmin as a trusted fitness and lifestyle brand and maintaining the positioning of its other categories in Australia and New Zealand, by way of product launches, media events and related activities.  In 2015, eckfactor ran a successful social media influencer outreach program for Garmin to promote the Vivofit 2 activity tracker.

eckfactor has worked with adventure travel and luxury lifestyle brands across several continents and more than ten countries worldwide. eckfactor’s unique approach to publicity integrates traditional PR with influencers, personalities and celebrities that closely align with brands to reach audiences across media as well as social.

Discovery Channel Eco-Challenge

The Discovery Channel’s Eco-Challenge television series was created by Mark Burnett (also the creator of Survivor) as the world’s premier adventure race. Teams of four raced across the world 24 hours a day, over a rugged 500 km course trekking, whitewater canoeing, horseback riding, sea kayaking, scuba diving, mountaineering, camel-back riding, and mountain biking. Karen Eck served as the International Communications Manager for Discovery Channel Eco-Challenge, based in Washington, D.C. and overseeing international media and publicity. Karen travelled with the show to Morocco, Argentina, Borneo and New Zealand.

Hotel ICON and Mission Hills Resort

Through a partner agency in Hong Kong, eckfactor worked to secure Australian media coverage for two luxury properties in Hong Kong and Haikou Island, China. Hotel ICON and Mission Hills were seeking to build awareness in the Australian market and position their properties as premier destinations for Australian travellers.

Ski Italy

eckfactor represents Ski Italy, a company based in Sydney, that offers personalised travel and tour packages for families, individuals and businesses looking to visit the Italian ski fields. Tania Peccedi, the founder and General Manager of Ski Italy, is a champion skier and daughter of Oreste Peccedi, former coach of the Italian Men’s National Ski Team and current competitor in the Italian Master circuit.

In January 2015, Karen Eck and her family travelled to Tania’s hometown of Bormio, Italy for five weeks of skiing, travel and Italian culture. Bormio is fast becoming the next hotspot and a popular destination for skiers and travellers from Europe and the world, known for its world class skiing facilities as well as its medieval thermal baths, which date back to 200BC. Karen fell in love with the area and experienced firsthand the extraordinary history and culture of the area, as well as modern amenities such as up-market hotels and shopping.

TuShare and Sendle

eckfactor managed the PR launches of two Australian start-ups, TuShare and Sendle. Both companies were founded by James Bradfield Moody, former Executive Director, Development at CSIRO, long time judge on ABC’s New Inventors TV show, and co-author of the bestselling book The Sixth Wave: How to succeed in a resource-limited world.

TuShare is an online marketplace where users can exchange goods for free – helping to save money, avoid clutter and help protect the planet. Sendle started life as the logistics solution for TuShare, providing door-to-door delivery of packages at post office prices.
